Food Delights at Jonker Street, Malacca

Address: Jonker Street, Malacca
Stopping over in Malacca overnight on the way from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, my first duty was to walk over to Jonker Street and absorb the wonderful night-time environment of this historic street. As usual my focus is on the street-side hawker carts.
On weekends, Jonker Street turns into a night market from six o'clock until midnight. I had seen the weekend night market during my 2009 trip to this historic city, so I wasn't too worried about it. I was however, hoping to catch some street food hawkers before they closed up shop!
This Jonker Street Walk arch is the very spot underneath which the night market occurs.
I hadn't known until later research that Jonker Street is very well known as an important antiques shopping center.
On this street are some of the oldest houses in the country.
Next time I come here, I plan to spend at least a week. Getting to know a place takes time, longer than one night. This Pineapple Tart bakery would be a first-class place to come for some breakfast snacks.
What would a night market be without hawker stalls? This fellow says he comes up from Singapore on the weekends to make his char kwae teow.
It is a good char kwae teow.
His wife stands at the stall next to him preparing Fried Oyster Omelette.
It took her about three minutes to make mine on this red hot griddle.
The taste and texture of this comfort food is definitely what I had come out to experience. I will be back.
