Shanghai Village Restaurant
3250 Cambie Street, Vancouver
This evening after Christmas Eve Holy Mass I accompanied Dominic & Magdalen and Anna to a newer northern Chinese restaurant on the local scene: Shanghai Village. This is a well-located restaurant, close to downtown Vancouver; a stone's throw away from Uncle Dominic's waterfront condo! So the location is excellent and the food is even better!! Double happiness can be found in this restaurant as every dish is good.
As a general rule if a Chinese restaurant is often busy then it must be good. This rule is doubly true for Shanghai Village as the place was absolutely packed when we arrived at 7:30. The boss is a good looking, rosy cheeks lady who clearly is in the restaurant game to win! My prediction is that this restaurant will continue to do very well in Vancouver and expand either into a larger restaurant at current location or move to larger digs, hopefully in the same area.
Good luck finding a parking spot.. this place is busy-busy!
One of my favorite dishes - braised eggplant. It is a smooth and oily arrangement that suits my palette just fine! With rice yummy-yummy..
Hello world, lookout for these dumplings! With soft and thin container each dumpling has a pork ball with sauce inside.
Closeup of dumplings.. again notice the round and bulging bottoms of these gorgeous little glutton-puddles.. biting into this treat is what eating is all about :)
This dish that looks like Chinese meatloaf is called Lion's Head. It is a delectable, soft and delicate preparation of pork and spices cooked to marvelous eating-perfection.
Fish in Golden Sauce. The golden color in the sauce is from egg yolks. The fish soup is yum-yum with a slight thickish taste of egg yolks that provides a comforting eating sensation.
Braised Lamb in sauce. The lamb meat and skin is tender and flavorful with a nice, rich sauce.

Pumpkin cakes for dessert. These are simply awsome! Biting into one of these is finding oneself in a magical world of pumpkin & spice rolled and baked into a hand-held wonder of a sweet thing!
