Yung Kee Restaurant

From Central MTR, I took a sightseeing walk through the business district of Hong Kong and busy pedestrian D'Aguilar Street. The restaurant is located in the Yung Kee Building on the corner of D'Aguilar and Wellington streets.

First up... Century Eggs!! These delicious preserved eggs, served with slices of pickled ginger, are surprisingly soft and extremely flavourful. The dark coloured yolk in the foreground is seen slowly falling off the slice of egg-half. From the egg-white to the yolk are 4 layers; semi-transparent yolk, light-green first layer of outer yolk, darker-green second layer of yolk and the darkest inner yolk (look closely at the very center of the inner darkest yolk - there is a 5th shade of green!) each exuding its own flavour that mixes wonderfully with its neighbours, turning this dish into a first-class veritable cornucopeia of gastronomic delights!

No sooner had I eaten my century egg than the master roaster's roast goose arrived! Just look at the goose skin hanging lightly onto the tender flesh of this delectable bird. My first time eating goose, in any style, I was amazed by the tender, succulent pieces of bird meat. Each bite chock-full of roast goose flavor, dripping gorgeous goose oil slathered everywhere.

This plate of roast goose is both an outstanding meal and a memorable Hong Kong experience.

Complementing the preserved eggs and roast goose is this bowl of Chinese noodles soup. An abundanace of rich flavour lies within and around the world-class noodles, lightly sprinkled with spring onions.

The memory of Yung Kee preserved eggs will stay with me for a long, long time especially after a second helping.
