Part of our pre-arranged travel itinerary in Myanmar was to take a passenger boat from Mandalay to Bagan, overnight in Bagan and the next evening fly to Yangon. This had all been planned while in the comfort of our homes in Vancouver. Little did we know that in Myanmar, January brings low water season for the Irrawaddy River. Waking up to a Mandalay morning is almost as romantic as arriving in the middle of the night. We arrived from the train station at about one o' clock in the morning, yet still through tired eyes I was appreciating the architecture of Silver Swan Hotel and while waiting for Uncle D to have a hot shower, watched a bit of black-and-white movie on satellite television... And waking up to a cool Mandalay morning and trying the interesting breakfast buffet... Mandalay exudes romantic from its heart. more...
