Daytrip to Seattle's Pike Place Market
Posted on 05/26/2010
Address: 1531 Western Avenue, Seattle WA
It has been a long time since I've been to Seattle. Not since I drove down to the Oregon Coast with Brian Miller to the Jus Harp Festival in '07 and before that in '94 to see the Toronto Blue Jays play the Seattle Mariners at the King Dome. So Arnel and I decided to take advantage of Victoria Day and head down to Seattle's Pike Place Market for a bit of regional sightseeing as well as bargain shopping at Seattle Outlets in Tulalip on the way back to Vancouver.
Yours truly enjoying the ambience.
Arnel posing in front of the market entrance.
Chinese man playing an Erhu at a busking station in front of the very first Starbucks shop.
Notice the brown colour and more intricate logo than the rest of Starbucks.
Plaque inside the shop.
The cup toss.
After getting our coffees, these buskers had replaced the Chinese erhu player.
What would this market be without Mee Sum Pastry? Taking a look around we notice giant hombow, bbq pork (char siu) >skewers and crab rangoon! I said to Arnel "we must have our brunch here!".
The char siu looked tantalizing indeed.
Although to be honest, good char siu must have a bit more fat than these to be truly legendary. I will post my next stop into BBQ Master under the Superstore off No. 3 Rd. Richmond. That place has the best char siu in all of Vancouver, and is probably just as good as the best in HongKong.
I had never heard of Crab Rangoon before this sighting. So I excitedly said to Arnel "we must try these!". They are tasty deep fried wontons stuffed with a concoction of flaked crab and cream cheese. They are tasty things for sure.
After waiting our 5 minutes for the next batch of curry beef hombow to emerge from the proprietor's oven, Arnel and I hightailed it to the nearest public seating area and began our feast. Mmmhh, curry beef hombow...
Fishmongers.
Wild salmon.
Fresh fish.
To be honest, the fish here is really overpriced. You can get fresh black cod in Vancouver's Chinatown for 5.99/lb. Probably in Seattle's Chinatown it is a lot cheaper than the price quoted here as well.
